I can't connect and see that my ping is over 300 there...This is my problems


 

u can't connect cos u have autodownload on .. i don't want anyone to get anything for now, sry .. so put autodownload off, but in further have it always on :)


no idea about ping .. stema have high too, so u both are italians, maybe it's some routing problem .. stema had nice ping just some days ago .. so ..

first of all, must say WOW no the mod, i really like it, and all the function that u can have are Way Kool, but, i have a cupple of things,







1: i can not see all my modles, as u know i have about lots of differnt modles and i like to use bender as my model in quake but i can not see him in the list, and i can not get him even by adding him to the file, i mean puttin in to efreaze foloder, :(,.




2: i use an extra PAK8 file, this file changes the look of quake, make the numbers and letters different, also changes the voice over guy to a sexy Voive, ( the voive comes from preditor) it is very kool, also it changes the clour of my rail gun, instead of the Turd clour brown it Green, and look much better, i dont really like the orignal quake and the way it look,






is there any way that i can get my Lovly model and Pak file back. Please let me know if there anything that i can do to help with these!!

soady: read in discussion, 333 server is pure, so nothing works, just what mod contains and u won't get anything other to work, sry .. :( (tip: u can have it on poison's server :D )


 

hmm i dont understand the minsnaps and minmaxpackets... if i set it to any value i only can use the value i have set. so if i set minsnap to 20 i cant make 40... why minsnaps then. same with maxpackets. maybe you can amke a range? minsnaps 20 maxsnaps 40 ? would be better, its nice funktion.

this is why none said we should not use this yet it still does not work properly now it sets thevalue alsways to the minmaxpackets value, in next version this will becomme the lowest version you can use. :D when i have a server i put it to 62, most connections can handle 62 without lag and it way better then maxpackets 30

poision this are all things none is working on, they are on the to-do list of none but its not so easy to include the ip as you think that is why its not in the beta. and its therefore no bug, just a not included functionality

well i wanted to release mod on date (was even one week late) so not everything is 100% done .. this worked in past, but later i didn't get it to work in public release, so it only force them (will work in next release)

well it's a pure server, so PUT UR AUTODOWNLOAD ON, if u still can't connect, do /condump error.txt and send me error.txt on my email (u'll find it in baseq3 folder or efreezebeta)

well try on stema's server, otherwise don't post about it .. 

ok all of u have invalid game folder problem .. well this problem happen when u simply just copy files from a cd and play quake .. all files are read only and that's why this happen ..


well do a right click on ur quake3 folder and choose properties then uncheck the box (so it's empty) where it says read only and choose to do that on all folders, subfolders and files .. for some this solved the problem, if u'll still get the same error, i can send u original installation cd quake (shhhh ;) :D ) and u won't have problems anymore  (i can also make pictures for this if u want)

INVALID GAME FOLDER:


CRC check (due to pure server) fail when checking ur quake files, this happen if u:
- have missing pakX.pk3 files in ur baseq3 folder (u need from pak0.pk3 to pak7.pk3 (for 1.31))
- changed/modified/damaged pakX.pk3 files in ur baseq3 folder (notice: MOSTLY THIS IS THE REASON)
- if u used cd crack on quake3.exe (or any other crack)
- mostly when u copy quake3 from a cd (u made a backup on it)



solutions:
- at first uncheck read only on all quake3 files
- try reinstalling 1.31 point release (dl here)
- if u used a cd crack or any other crack on quake3.exe i can send u non cracked one (pm me)
- if still not working, copy quake to some other directory and delete all .pk3 files in baseq3 just leave the pakX.pk3 files (from pak0.pk3 to pak7.pk3) and delete all configs and other directory's and put autodownload on
- if still not working, u'll need to freshly reinstall quake, install 1.31 point release (dl here) and put autodownload on when connecting to server (and don't use any cracks for quake3.exe)

most of u have problems with these 2 files:

    not on the pure list

...\baseq3\pak0.pk3 (3725 files)
    not on the pure list


u have too many files in them, i dunno which mod did that to them or if u just modified them with something, there should be:


...\baseq3\pak2.pk3 (148 files)
on the pure list


...\baseq3\pak0.pk3 (3539 files)
on the pure list

donno if this can be fully counted as a bug but meh...

spawnshield = been annoying me cos of it so meh..

spawnshield is like 3 secs...

once it hits 0secs all should be gone...

but it stays on for 1 sec more...but..only shield's look on the player...so they can be shot and shoot...

but how the hell to know that...it seems most are jamming their mouse1 as fast as possible when its on and an enemy is seen...
cos once it gets to it they fire...

about 14 times this has happened to me today...i see some1 with shield...i know i can move away faster than the shield will go so just run instead and look for something i can shoot...but they can shoot cos its on that dreaded 0 sec...

ooo this is annoying for cheeeee :p

well, be sure that for both sides it's same amount of time, it's coded that way (it take value of g_spawnInvuln for both side) .. they don't need to have battlesuit and they'll still won't be able to be shot, battlesuit is there only that other players can see that he still have spawn protection .. it's built so that if u shoot him in g_spawnInVuln time it won't make him damage, only knockback him ..


but sometimes it's like u can shot some ms before, that happen cos of communication between servers and lag .. so .. well i dunno exactly what to do with it, we can put it on more or disable it .. maybe some ideas how this could be improved?


also lot's dislike that player who repspawn have blocked weapon, what to do with it? should player be able to shoot or have less (maybe half) of time as he can be shot?

its not that i dont like the protection its that i cant wtf he is able to do...can he or cant he shoot me at that second i see him? cos then i gotta shoot or not...if i shoot and im wrong im on evasion cos then i gotta wait for reload whilst they can shoot..

completely against shooting whilst shield is up...it would be pointless in any protection...peeps could kill themselves, spawn and then take some out whilst shield is on then kill themselves....
i thought it was the other half of the point of spawn protection.....to not be shot by some lucky person spawning and to not be raped the second u spawn....

again those who can't connect to 333 server and have autodownload on, have INVALID GAME FOLDER problem .. how to solve it is written above, but i'll say again:


for most the main problem are pakX.pk3 (X = 0-7), the main reason is u installed some huge mod which overwrite them .. u need to replace those pakX.pk3 files with original from cd .. if u don't have a cd, connect to a server and do /condump error.txt after u tried to join the server and send me info (u'll find error.txt in baseq3/ OR efreezbeta/) .. so i'll be able to know which pakX.pk3 files to send ..

i like efreeze and its features very much, but i have a problem.


i start efreeze server from a config file named efreeze.cfg, but at every server starting it overwrites my q3config.cfg file in the efreezebeta folder, so all my bindings and config settings are lost and i can't play...


what can i do to avoid this ?


(i made a safety copy of the q3config.cfg and i copy it back after starting the server, but i think its not the ideal solution...)


 

rename ur backup q3config.cfg to, for example, paradoxx.cfg and copy it to efreeze folder .. when playing it, just type "/exec paradoxx.cfg " (without quotes) in console and u'll have ur config back and running ..

is efreeze not compatable with Quake III Team Arena ?


just installed it and now i cant see any efreeze servers on Quake III Team Arena or just normal q3


also old freeze if u had 100 maxpacks you would get 47 ping and it would stick some called it a but others sead it was ment like that so peeps would know what maxpacks you had


on efreeze is it 10 maxpacks to stick to 33 ping


what maxpacks should we play with and maby if we all put them low no one would loose out or am i confused about  it

eFreeze was compiled without team arena sources, so it's not compatable with it as u figured out ..


ping is lower these days, cos we're using sv_fps 30 .. i thought OSP has it's own "net code" as it's said on lot's of forums and as lot's of ppl are thinking it is, but it's not, cos quake doesn't allow a mod to change anything regarding connections .. what osp has is just sv_fps on 30 .. this makes game more smooth and lowering ping, but uses more bandwidth on servers .. so if server admins set sv_fps back on 20, u'll get that 48 ping it was before ..


what maxpackets? i suggest not lower than 62, but it's up to u at the end if u wanna have 15 or 30 or anything ..

yeah i found a bug in efreeze,, some times when i shoot at ppl the rail goes trough, and i am like wtf. its like the hitboxes becouse of lag is gone. well its funny but fustrating as well

and yeah, few new cheaters around there, so efreeze don't protect perfectly :/
Whats wrong with the mod ? every efreeze server i connect to it loads freeze tag lol - and i cant even connect 2 weed server just boots me.

I have a problem with the kick command, if i call the clientlist and write the number of the player which i wanna kick, he kick sometimes the wrong one.

I refresh the list before i do this or kick the next one.

First off, thank you for excellent freeze mod and running duel server.

I'm running my own server too and have a problem with hook on q3dm17. There are platforms, so called third floor above teleporters and these platforms have smooth curves on sides in form of semicircle. I know it sounds weird, but on my server I can shoot through them and cannot grapple them too. It looks like there is no "floor" in place near the sides of semicircles. I tried to repeat this bug on your server but everything was ok, so probably the problem was solved anyhow. I use efreeze v 1.02 downloaded from clan site. Could you please tell me is it a known bug and is there any workaround for it?

I thought it is a wrong q3dm17.bsp in my pak, but its not. Same map works correct when running in osp and some other freeze mods.

Protocol simply forced to 67 in q3 source codes. I couldn't run linux binaries on virtual dedicated freebsd machine and I couldn't build clean 1.31 because there is no source code available for it. So I changed 68 to 67 in one header file and did full rebuild.

I know you might think that wrong q3ded is cause of problem, BUT when i'm running efreeze server on my windows machine (full 1.32 set of packages but with exe from 1.31) i'm expecting the same problem on q3dm17.

Yes I did, just yesterday. I'll try to play around this evening, may be I got it to work. The funniest thing is that one of [EM] clan teammate told me he has the same problem when running his own server, but i could't check it by myself. I think it must be a known issue, may be someone will come up with the solution. Thanks for your time anyway.
If somebody have correctly working efreeze windows server please drop me a line, it would be great to compare configs and md5 of pak0.pak and efreeze files.

Adam! I've found a solution. It was all about cm_noCurves and cm_playerCurveClip which seems are mistakenly 1 and 0 by default in efreeze vm files. To fix that, it is necessary to add following strings to server config:

seta cm_noCurves "0"

seta cm_playerCurveClip "1"

Now everything works fine!

windows q3 usually doesnt work good if you use one q3 to playing and running servers.

lol here's a bug I found a week or so ago, the door in the pool hall on DM8 kept on fucking up and only one side was opening. [feu]

I found 2 bugs:

sometimes some teamates appear in the enemy color, and enemy in teamates color, the color changes when frozen oO

Another one is sometimes vsay blocks and go on speaking on a random person: he doesnt even touch his keyboard but vsay goes on.
i ended up on the star enterprise when i went through portal on dm7

Well eFreeze has nothing to do with the bugs u are mentioning, those are quake bugs, blame ID Software :-/

I have been getting this all night and its getting very annoying. things need to be sorted or just bring the original mod back that i was playing for many many years with no problems.



 

I have been playing the new mod for 2 months and have never experienced this problem. What version does your efreeze-core pak have?

The rule that red is red and blue is red is just sick .. it's kinda this: red=blue=blue=red=red and blue=red

So a player in RED team glows BLUE when frozen, and a BLUE player glows RED when frozen.


This confuses me as i don't know which is which .. even more i had few moments where i could see my team mate frozen in RED color and glowing RED although he should be blue...


The only thing that saved me from getting completly nuts is the yellow triangle showing which is your team mate..

Same here.. i think i'll erase this new crap and use old and stable eFreeze .. if a sever is pure then i'll not join and at least have red players as red.

You just didn't configured all the things Spc.

Relax a little, don't be so nervous. All other say that the new mod is good.

If something doesn't work there is a "last option rule" - RTFM.

Have you read efreeze-howto? It seems like you haven't. Cause if you have, than you would know how to change the glow color of frozen body.

There's nothing to adapt to. Just configure as you like! That's all.
There is something to adapt to if you don't change thaw colors the way you like :D

Yea that would be cool, because sometimes i cant see if teamates are frozen or not with blue team color, anyway that would made this ef update perfect.
This new version has those glowin skins like in NoGhost - it looks cool but I think i prefer previous freeze bodies too. It makes easier to catch frozen bodies. :)

i haven't been on this forum sinds july i think, but still i want to give my opinion here. And as former developer of the Efreeze mod ir realy sad to see what is happening with it.


I mean while helping none on the first version of efreeze i was always the one that liked the fancy stuff (as ir a promode player) and he was the one that liked to keep it plain and simple (oldschool). This has led to a few fights between us in the past and eventualy letting me leave quake cos i was dissapointed in Efreeze but still it had led to one healthy thing. With version 1 of efreeze you started with a almost oldschool version of freeze witch you could "tweak" to what ever level you liked it to be so that those who did not want the fancy crap were not bothered by it. The "old" looks were always standard.  there was balance in what we added, and at the end of the day everything that could possibly change game experiance on client side was turned off as standard.


the fact that you are telling SPC a old school freeze player to read the fucking manual means that you have gone to far in adding features and that the mod has become overcomplicated. How in hell can it come so far that someone has to work his way true a manual to get basic settings as the color of frozen skins right while he is not even asking for it anyway.

How in hell did you get it in your mind to even try to add unlagged crap to the mod. Unlagged technocrap onely adds fals kills, people who look to shoot true walls and screws up with peoples experiance of there connection.


Dont get me wrong, i love to play with enemy colors and enemy skins, but by default all these options should be off. Onley those willing to spend time in tweaking there quake should have to read the manual all others should be able to play right out of the box.


Efreeze should be a mod for all players for the community not onley for those technical enough or willing to use the console. Just cut the crap and think twice about what you add, and turn it off by default. Dont screw with things like netcode, or anything that could change the game experiance for that matter. Never let fancy crap ruin the game for those not wanting the fancycrap.


Last note, before you launch a new version of efreeze first test it ffs. Its just silly how many people have problems with the mod everytime.


hope i did not offend you to mutch but if i did ir not sorry for it cos the way this mod is looking right out of the box now (namely as a childs painting made by a 3 year old with all the damn colors) is realy offending me!


if you ask me there is onley one thing to add, to the mod but i dont know if its possible. Now after you install quake your network settings are set to modem and you got a verry low rate and snaps. Sinds now everyone uses DSL or cable the settings are not right. This is the cause of about 50% of the high pingers on the servers. If it would be possible to change this setting to DSL/cable/T1 by default it would decrease the amount of high pingers a lot and help the community wile onley doing harm to the modemers witch i think are not around anymore..


Just please remind one thing this mod was made on the basis of a old school mod witch you could tweak up to the level you liked to play it. Please honor the outgoing principle of keeping it simpe till the user takes action and makes it complicated.


 

Well i know how to set things in this new efreeze via console and everything...  but! i use normal models (not forced) and graphics at maximum (1600x1200) so that quake looks nice and it's not boring with all same models all the time.


If i wanted to use green colored skins and forced models quake would be boring for me because everyone is looking the same.

are there thoughts to make a new version already? rebbie had some nice ideas there, and a point. but try to work together as atrey & rebbie have the best intentions in mind for the game and the community. you just have a different view...
Regarding the default look. The basics are the basics. I tried to not change any default behavior and look. Well, something I did change, I will correct this. It's ok. It's a part of the development process.


Regarding the overcomplexity of the mod. Well, promode is much more difficult. I moved almost all options into the setup menu to make it as easier to configure as possible. Will proceed in this way.


Regarding other accusations and criticism.
Where have all you been this time? Where were your opinions? The only man who actively participated in the development of the 1.2 version was Adam. He directed me. So, for him and for me the mod looks nice. If you participated in the development it would look nice for you too. But you didn't. And now you are telling me that mod sucks. Well, I don't care. Cause it is not constructive criticism. The mod is developed for those who play and not for those who appears in q3 once in a half a year and immediately start accusing us as those who spoils the mod. Go, install the old one and play. Or just participate in the development. I have msn, Adam has one, tell him all your ideas and siggestions and we will discuss them and implement.

Ok let's write something here.


We worked hard in past for mod to became as far as it is today, not just by development but by it's popularity. My main goal when creating eFreeze was, that it became a mod community always wanted, as much as admins, as players ... I certainly don't see this happening now.


I'll ask you to stick to some guidelines, if you want to brand the mod under the name of eFreeze, if you don't agree with me here, rename the mod to whatever you want, as this will be better of.


What was made in eFreeze was, that all the 'advanced' settings were OFF (read again: O F F) by default, from server to client side. The only new thing which was ON by default was the scoreboard on the client side, which of course can be turned off by /ef_scoreboard 0. That's the MAIN POINT of eFreeze, to LOOK like PLAIN FREEZE when you download it and don't have a config, yet it has most of those fancy stuff community wants. All those new things are great, but not for everybody, so make 'em OFF (again: O F F) by default, if someone wants to set them, they'll know how. I'm sure more than half of people still dunno that there's a setting which tells you how much players are left in your team (from whatever number to LAST), but that's the point, those that wanted advanced settings have them and are able to set them ... It won't even take you minutes of work to set everything to default and make it adjustable, yet nobody will complain and those who want the new settings will have them ...


So let forced models be turned off by default, let it be like it is by default, that every players is shown as a real model he has it set, you can code that in a second ... same goes for frozen bodies, make an variable which will make them glow blue and red, but by default let them look like old freeze ... those who'll want it, will change it, yet those who don't won't even notice the difference!


MAKE MANUAL FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO CHANGE THINGS, NOT FOR THOSE WHO DON'T!


Another thing, don't just fuckin' release new version for every update/fix, this will cause so much confusion, if i'm not wrong i released only 2 version of it, yet there were countless updates, ppl back then didn't know about pure or how to handle it, nobody would be playing on servers if there would be a new version every week. Today most know, so you're already in the advantage, but don't abuse that.


As for unlagged reb, i made it clear i don't want it in, just for hook, which can indeed be a great add-on, as hook is so diff by ping above 50 and it won't hurt anybody ... if there'll be unlagged for other weapons in the mod, it won't be called eFreeze! I made that clear months ago.


If you'll stick to these, you'll make people happy, you'll make me happy and mod can be as it once was, PLUS with all those new great things you added (respect for that), but don't force them in, make 'em off by default and adjustable for those who want it.


If you don't agree with what i have written above, then just name the mod differently and brand it under different name, as it's not was eFreeze was meant to be ... Simple as that and no one will get hurt :D ...

I accept that the glow colors of frozen bodies is my undertake.

The rest accusations have no reason to exist:

All the previous default values remained the same.

The mod undertook significant changes which all player want to use. So the version update was required.

The manual was developed just for those who want advanced configuration.


And you guys instead of pessimistic accusations to my address would rather help testing the mod. I had no help from your side at all. If you guys helped me at least with advice, there would be no this conversation.

I really didnt like efreeze 1.02 advanced stuff like !@#$$#%$%$#%$ chganging grapple speed, but im used to it now. Everything is evolving ( like pokemons :P ).


It's not my fault, efreeze 1.1 beta leaked out ( greetz Doom :D :* ). There should be 50% less of complaining, if beta version was not on any server

Well, i agree with atrey with that, all is by default (except glowing frozen bodies and black which has gone grey) in that new version! I dont see the point here. And we (me the first) are all enjoying these new features. Just one thing is that in 1.2.0 final version, all cfgs have disappeared except efreezeserver.cfg. There is/are in fact one/two thing/s to change to get an ef version that is named efreeze; am i right?
Well I see all kind of replies from people having problems with models ... How can there be a problem with 'em if everything regarding to models is set to 'off' by default? There can't be ... I see here replies you need to configure them to be as default ... Create an variable, which is set on 0 or something by default and if someone changes something under the 'model menu' or set a different value to some model variable then it auto set it to 1, this are some simple things to do ...

I don't see a problem with glowing frozen bodies as well ... Default can be set to same as they were in normal freeze, i didn't say those new are bad, but as u see some people want it old-look like ... I don't see how anybody would complain if everything by default would be the same it was ...

Some suggestions, I would make that by changing team, score from player would stay the same (example from red to blue), but reset if joined in spectators ... Also scoreboard for spectators is now kinda empty, I created it like that at first, but then we filled it with the 0 0 0 0 info, looks much better ... If you want to strip info from spectators as it is now, at least make the SPECTATOR text over the empty place in scoreboard, if you understand what i mean, it will look much better ...

Another thing, Adam was saying something about 'anti-camp', I can code you this now if you want to add it again, but it was deleted from the mod with a reason, way toooooooooooooo much complains about it and way toooooo much abuse from admins, but this can of course be changed now ... so most people want it back again ?

Well, im thinking about coaches + specs lock, like on osp. Maybe ppl will stop spam on public chat ;)


I won't say about /pause now, coz u will kill me hahaha :D it should be enabled only on cw-servers ;)

Would be nice if all had these numbers next to their faces.

Fast and easy, sometimes it's not possible to use this /follow feature coz of colors etc, and if a server is full, u don't have to sit and click to that player all the time. And it would be enough to write /rcon clientkick 1 if u want to kick me in this example. Is this possible?

Would be nice. (btw, sexy Paint skills i show : D )

/follow 123456 is a standard q3 feature, u can get ID by /serverstatus, but it usually gives wrong one :D

It would be cool if we form a real development team and there would be an active adoption committee which will say what changes are normal and what are inappropriate.

You've been doing good job atrey. It's natural that mod keeps developing in time. Thats what everyone is expecting. So I dont know why ppl are so angry about this new mod. Well maybe because of that glowing frozen bodies. But that shouldnt be that kind of thing what makes ppl to attack against you. And there is no khaos inside of developing efreeze mod either. Instead of attacking by group to against one person, u ppl could come with the friendly way to express the feelings.

The idea is generally nice but think about all those lil numbers in scoreboard. It will be messy im afraid.

But there would be solution if i remember right ufreeze had this feature:

holding tab down (which shows scoreboard) and then u can move target over the players in scoreboard and then select the player to spectate. In ufreeze there was hover effect when target was selecting players. So after that it will automatically follow only that person. Even if selected players is frozen its locked to him/her and it keeps following again when body is unfrozed. This feature could make spectating things far more easier.

I think /serverstatus shows wrong numbers due to privateclients number set by server.
And from my own part, i always look at frags per minutes ratio, if scores dont change while changing team, all scores would mean nothing for me, that's my opinion.

I don't know what's wrong but when i play on 1.32 with the newest efreeze mod + PunkBuster Quake 3 freezes in 10 minutes.


When i play 1.31 with the old original mod (and no PunkBuster) i can play for 6 hours without a glitch.


 


Maybe it's because i've got 4GB of RAM and punkbuster has problems scanning my whole 4GB of ram or punkbuster/new efreeze is not compatible with 4 cores.. ??

Today i've put everything to stock frequency (as is from store) .. but .. 1.32 + new efreeze + punkbuster still freezes.


I will try to reinstall quake tomorrow.


 

Well quake would never freeze because of mod, max it could happen is to crash it ... I'm sure it's problem with punkbuster scanning the memory, maybe it's too much for it or something, no idea ... GFX is probably not the problem as it works O.K. in 1.31 ...
PB doesn't have to scan all 4gb of RAm. It scans only the allocated for the quake3 process memory.



These Freezes could be caused by some resource sharing problems, like HD, or something else. Windows likes this sharing issues.

Well if 1.31 works flawlessly why 1.32 gives me errors..


What happens is that picture freezes and sound (loops in 1 second sample) freezes ... then i have to restart because nothing else helps.

Ok, i've installed quake 3 + 1.32 from CD (New installation) and played CTF for 30 minutes.


Had few "3 second" freezes (because pb is scanning all the time) and after 30 minutes it froze completely so i am 100% it's the pb problem with 4GB .. i'll try 2GB tomorrow.

Well if you still want to start this is up, i can make /host a bugtracking / feature requesting thing for you. Also i can give my oppinion about things once in a while. What i cant do is spend all my free time in this game simply because this is my final year @ school and i are short on time as it is.


Don't take criticisms personal, its just you have to understand that this is a verry complicated community, it was back then its now. some like new stuff others just want to keep it as it is (people in general dont like change) and there is no sutch thing as a good change cos there will always be people who dont like the change.


What me drove to write my former post full with criticsism is that none and many others and i have spend a lot of time in 1, building the mod and 2 getting the mod to be accepted by the community. It was a community thing, and on return a few months ago i found that there were many versions of efreeze beeing used and that many people were having problems.. witch was just the thing that we tried to avoid in the past. Still that is behind us, ofc i will support anyone trying to make this community better..



 

well there is already one system based on bugzilla, but we didnt have time to configure it.
