Hey folks!


You all know that there were no subsequent official versions since efreeze-1.02 has come out.


But community requires the mod to be upgraded.


I asked NoNE to share the sources and he gave them to me.


Since that moment I started implementing a new feature - enemy/team models. And finally finished it.


I suggest you to test it for a while and if it is good/acceptable, we can set it on our servers.


Sinse a new feature was implemented I incremented version of the mod. Now it is 1.1. Also, there is third number in version, which mean some bugfixes were applied to initial revision.

Well to add my 2 cent here as i'm rarely replying lately ...


as for the scoring system u were talking about, it's not such a bad idea, but 5 points for something like killing the last enemy, or thawing someone when u're the last one alive is just freakin' too much, u really count that as such a high skill?? c'mon ... maybe 2 instead of 1 points (as a bonus) is enough ...


"ef_drawPlayersWarning" needs to be fixed atrey (maybe variable should also be renamed to something better), i made it in the way with the function which checks if a person is frozen (can't remember it atm, Q_isfrozen() ??), but looks like there comes to some problems ... i think it works perfect only with like max 5 or 6 players, so maybe there can be a bug in function itself, don't remember details anymore ...


Next thing is the protection for that say/vsay overflow which crashes the server ... made a fix for it already, we just need to implement it ...


The bot adam was talking about can be included in cheat protection for .31 servers (.32 ban these anyway)


As for the enemy models and colours, the default green colour in quake is a lot darker than the one OSP has on char 'e' (is it on e?), so maybe u can play a bit with RGB colours to get the brigther green and put it on 'e' char or '2' or on both or somewhere else ..


I was informed that the ad_mute command doesn't always work properly .. it always worked for me, maybe u can check if u can find what bothers some ...


oh ev, u said once about some bigger fonts in scoreboard, try the default one by setting /ef_scoreboard to 0 ..

i don't mind this one, can do more good than harm ... i think ppl won't mind to switch teams to make the balance ... should score stays (and accu and other things) for that map even if u join spectators? or just when switching teams, e.g. from red to blue???

no way to influence this one ... it's coded in quake itself, ID says it should work properly on .32 and not on .31 ... we can't do anything about this in the mod ...

as far as i know this is another impossible thing to do ... MOD can't get enough info to create such demos ... maybe only if /record command (is there any other?) works on server side, haven't tried that out, then it could be done something about it ... otherwise no way .. yet u can't load clientside of the mod (where this is possible) when running quake as server ...

we're already using it in league, demo from 4v4 15 minutes match was about 10mb, but we can choose which pov we want to watch


 


and next thing: on ufreeze u can switch povs when u're on gtv ;)

ah and models! please copy the models from another mod. ufreeze or smth! the ones used in the version i saw was just one coloured mass. that is so ugly that it spoils all my fun in this game. I would suggest at least some models that look like the original. please please please! if this will be the version we'll play if it is out, i cant play months with just blurry shapes as enemies...

Well if ufreeze has it, then there should be some kind of existing command in quake itself which does that, i cannot see how it could be done without it ...


well he couldn't do triple shot as it's coded to stop when second player is hit, but sure, rail can be done to go through as much as it's set or there just ain't a limit (just till it hit something concrete (wall/ground, ..))


atrey maybe do a "to do" list with most stuff we mentioned in the first post of this topic, so we see what was already said and later do any X at things which are done ...

Maybe describe the osp spectator mode a bit more? :D i don't have it nor i wanna download it :p, but if it's that u can't spec others when u're in spectators, that's just sux ...


well empty names can be done in several ways ... if atrey has time i don't see any obstacles, it's just time consumpting :)


About the models, well give a guy some credit for making progress with 'em .. with a bit efford, they sure can be similar to what osp has ...


and another idea, (just) grapple could always be unlagged ... this way 60+ ping won't effect u nor if u start lagging .. :)

you have 3 different views on players in osp: chase came, free float, 3rd person. chase cam and free float is the same as in efreeze. 3rd person is an additional view. cg_thirdperson 1/0 is the command for playing that. you can easily switch between all these modes of spectation.


about names: maybe it is just my opinion, but everyone should a least have a descent name. I hate when 3 "unnamed players" are in the map. I dont like :); .; ,; :] ... or any names like that either. can't adress the player when talking and it is disrespectful to the other players.


As I said, models should be more like the original ones in q3. it's just much more fun then!!!

Need to check it on efreeze-1.1. It might be fixed already.
For the moment I can say that I can make enemy/team models as they are done in CPMA.
I got another idea. I play since long and with headphones, and i can recognize people by skin... many players do that and that is why i never used forcemodel. But green color is nice to spot enemies so--> would it be possible to just use green color without forcing models?
we're getting close to a "wallhack" configuration, but since many cheat i guess that's ok :p
Thats just skin color i mentionned. Seeing though walls must be so boring imo.

i think on 1.31 yes. on 1.32 with pb no! adam could configurate the 1.32 server (as we tried to move) that kick names with swear words, or ., ,, :), was very cool, cause i hate fake players with stupid names! :p

* Fixed bug when an enemy has the teammate model (need testing though).


* Skins now can be forced without forcing models (pSylle - it's for you).

That I call a good quiestion! :) I don't know. Need to check if it works in CPMA with vertexlight set to 1.

Hi guys. It's been time since my last progress report.


Several recent weeks I investigated that nasty thing with shooting. For ones who don't know what the thing is: the aiming point in the recent efreeze-1.1 became different in compare with the same in efreeze-1.02 which was not good. So, I played with some parameters and determined correction which makes shooting and aiming as it used to be (I hope at least).


Now I started to think about making the 3-d person view for spectators, but encountered that on 1.32 punkbuster switches off it after about 0.1 sec. If I find a way to fight with pb I'll inmplement this feature.


Also, I started thinking about demos with ability to play it from different views. I encountered that each client doesn't receive all the world information from the server, only about those player which are near to the client (or player which is followed by the client). So, it is evident, that to play demo from different views, it is required to receive all the information. I started investigation how to achieve this.


If some1 thinks that I shall switch to tasks of a higher priority than I do, he is kindly asked to state them :)

Do you speak about FraggedNation eFreeze server?

For the moment it runs the old efreeze-1.02. So, the problem is rather in pb itself than in the mod. Or, you have bad connections to the server.

Maybe there is an essence to modify pb configuration in order to remove this problem (if it is possible).

you need PnkBstrA.exe and  PnkBstrB.exe running , if you dont have you are kicked !


Some other software programs such as virus scanners, firewalls and Internet security software packages are suspicious of any new services and kernel drivers when they are first released. Some of these will block our new components thereby causing the "Losing Key Packets" kicking. Until these various packages are updated to correctly identify PnkBstrA.exe, PnkBstrB.exe, and PnkBstrK.sys as components of the PunkBuster Anti-Cheat System, players who experience PunkBuster kicks due to these conflicts need to either manually adjust the settings of the other software running on their system or disable the other software while playing on PunkBuster enabled servers. The new PunkBuster components make use of network resources and also frequently update files in the Windows system folders. This activity triggers warnings or blocks by some other security programs, some of which consider all unknown programs as threats or malware. Our new components are simply extensions of the existing PunkBuster system using new services and kernel software drivers, and are each signed with Verisign / Authenticode digital signatures for verifiable authenticity purposes. Most major security packages do not block our new components; users with other software that causes these conflicts should contact the vendor of their security package and request an update to correct this conflict.


FIX:

1. Click on the start menu, click on Run.... Type services.msc.
2. Under services find PnkBstrA. Right click it and stop it from the option in the drop-down menu.
3. Now double click it. On startup type select disabled.
4. Repeat 2 and 3 for PnkBstrB.
4. Go to your windows/system32 folder.
5. Find the two files, PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe and delete them.
6. Go to AA/system/pb folder.
7. Delete PnkBstrB.exe and PnkBstrK.
8. Go to http://www.evenbalance.com/ind...tup.php and download the pbsetup for your operating system.
9. Install. Select game directory and update PB.

It has been implemented. Check it out from the 1.1.5 version.

like on cpma for example, it sounds better.

And what about thaw sound? is it still takjr jumps, because i force models to tankjr and it doesnt help.
pSylle, can u tell what sound to use or give me a new one? And I will insert it in the mod.

As for the snowfall, I'll think about it :)
Atm all scheduled tasks for release are complete. And we start its extensive testing. If all proceed with success, we will make a release in a week.



However, it is more to do. There are still bugs which need to be fixed, and many features yet to implement. :P
Hmm, i've checked in pk3s and found many which could fit...
In pak0.pk3: items/health /powerupspawn /regen (this one is good)
However all those are short sounds, and maybe well have to think if a sound loop runing all long the time someone is thawing wouldnt be best.
What do you all think ? (would be much easier to spot someone thawing thou).

I was wondering one thing.. is it possible to modify screen text to little smaller? I mean like when someone unfreeze you or someone joins the red or blue. And the text when team wins.

I know it's not the most important thing but it would add something to visual look :)

Scoreboard hud is just perfect, no need to change that. But for examble what OSP has in this one:

So there's examble of little text for fragged message. And enemy name is smaller too which is nice. Another thing what comes to screen is when u change weapon railgun to gauntlet and votes would be nice to have smaller too.

if im not wrong: ch_fragmessage 12x12 < ch - config hud, 12x12 - size in pixels ( heightxwidth )
Also, theres a bug allowing to crash servers that many ppl know, i thought it has been solved but no....Its really important to fix it, but i think it could be hard. For more infos pm me, i wont spread the bug here.

the "you have fragged.. tied for zzz place" message would be great.


Maybe a new scoreboard would be something tasty aswell, something like cpma is but not quite as big text if you know what i mean, so more players are visible to see on it. (but it has to look sexy like the CPMA one to)


Also I think we should slow down the game play... I think it's to fast personally, it should be something simular to 1.16... so i think we should slow this down a touch aswell, would be great for non hookerz like me.


I also like the green models etc with texture on them, so that will be good aswell, hmm..  anyway gl with it, looking forward to using it asap. =]

The scoreboard layout woun't be changed in the upcoming release. But we certainly schedule scoreboard changes to the folowing one.

hello, sorry i come in this discussion so late! :p anyway, adam mailed me the new mod yesterday, so far it's great, i love the glowing models! and i think shooting has been improved too?


spiral had the right idea imo, that is to say we should leave options as much as possible (i dont know if this is too much work..?) that means one can switch old/new scoreboard/thawsounds/railsounds because i like the 'hit' sound and the scoreboard as it is now!


maybe someone can also write some kind of manual to the new mod - because I don't know all commands for colorcodes for the models...

HOWTO USE MODEL/SKIN FORCING IN EFREEZE-1.1



To switch Forced models on:

The color var shall consist from 3 chars

first - legs color

second - torso color

About thaw sound, if we let players choose the sound, he could freely choose a very long one, the sound playing ALL time the player is thawing and not only when he approaches, making him a easy target.
atrey, what happened to a black color in scoreboard hud? =/ :p. Please put it back :)
Yah honestly i prefer a good black too =p but you can watch defrag mod for exemple where colors and character size can be set.

So top scoreboard is old one and bottom one new. There's lil differences in the new scoreboard: less space for names and more room in front of the player model heads. So dunno if this is bug or what but it would be better more room for player names like in old scoreboard. For examble KONRAD's name doesnt fit in new version.

The name field width is 100 which it seems like is too small.
Also, I noticed that you use pm models and have r_vertexlight set to 1, so pm-model heads are not drawed correctly.
I dunno what that means >.>. I think now pm skins works just perfect. They aint like it was before full colored models without any details (top screen).
great work atrey. i dont know if i followed the discussion right.... but i hope the pm models work on vertex as well now:] when can we expect an official release?
I'm going to leave for a vocation since this Saturday.

So, from my side I will provide Adam with the compiled mod (release version).

Then he will prepare a distribution (i.e make some changes into server configs which are a part of the distribution, maybe he will do some other tasks).

Also, there is a plan to re-born the eFreeze site (we already have an acknowledgment from Spc) and proceed with subsequent releases, mod discussion, etc. using that site.

Anyway, I think that Adam atm is the man who decides (with the silent acknowledge from NoNe).

I tried a script that loop all models on 1 button and i noted that no need to press TAB to see that model has changed. But that feature works only in TMD mod, could it be possible to extend that to dm, tourney etc....Applying what you did on team_model to model?
How about addition to next release: player gets freezed when he joins to a team from spects. Until he's unfreezed or teams has scored he can continue playing. That would prevent that reconnecting problem which some players are abusing.
It's just a noob abuse that don't have so many effects on the game. Reconnect command can be useful in some specific cases, we don t have to punish the usage of it into the game. Spiral, let them being stupid. We cannot prevent noobs from playing on public servers.
