im not up to date about ram but for sure i think if the mb supports ddr u cand install them! (probably u cant mix rams types) maybe try to check wich type of ddr is suppoerted b4 buying rams.

anyway i dotn think u can ruin your mb...at least when u'll install dimms the system wont start and u will hear your mb crying "beeeeeeep" :)

but lets see what the harware gurus here can say more :)

ciao

pritty sure u not ment to mix ram well thats what i read any way just give your motherbord book a read and see what ram u can have the most of or if u want to save money just get the same type as u all ready got 1 thing im sure of ddr slots are only ment for ddr memory lol learnt this making my pc hahahhaha
What I was thinking was that he has 2 types of slots.. logically they won't make 2 types of RAM slots in a motherboard if it will crash the system. I thought SD RAM doesn't fit in a DDR slot, so you can try putting it in but it simply won't fit. I thought different speeds of DDR RAM don't work too well together, but SD and DDR are whole different sticks and if the motherboard would have 2 types of slots provided and you can't stick a SD RAM in a DDR slot but you can put them in the right slots and the 2 DDR sticks are the same speed, I would think no problem should occur.
in mixed motherbords you have to remind a few things:

you cant mix 2 types of ram so use onley SDR or onley DDR.

keep in mind that you have onley 2 slots so buy big modules (512 mb or 1 gb cos if you buy for example 2x 256 you have to trow one away with your next upgrade

, first look what types of ddr ram are supported (most support all but wont run at full speed)then read up on types of supported ram and speeds of busses on your motherbord most mixed motherbords are made for pc 2100 (266 mhz) and pc 2700 (333 mhz) so save yourself money and buy cheap ram modules cos those are not gone be the slowing factor but the speed of busses and chipcets are gona be the slowing factor. its no use if you buy 500 mhz modules on a 266 mhz memmory bus they will work but you wont notice any more preformance as on cheap ass 333 or 400 mhz modules (pc2100 are becomming rare and more expencive as 2700 and 3200 modules )

last thing ddr works this way: slowest module is making the speed, so if you buy slower modules now its cheaper now but if you want to buy a new pc any time soon (next (half)year or so after that todays newest models are old) and you want to use the modules you buy now in the new pc you can better buy faster modules cos then you can use them also in the new pc otherwise not cos older models will slow up your new pc drasticly (even if you put more newer models in also cos the slowest makes the speed)

in short

DRR or SDR cant use both at same time

various speeds in DDR modules is possible but slowest will make the speed

Sometimes you need to change a jumper on the motherbord or make a change in the bios to select what type of ram you need to use

fucking up your pc with new ram is almost impossible cos 99 % of the times the ram will just not work.

:D some one that knows about memory as we are on this subject can u give me a little help my motherbord can hold up to 2G or memory atm  i got 512 + (256 think well i know its just over 200)
