hey guys i wanna know if i can play with the XP Professional System of 64 bits , i don't need other quake or a new quake ? plz answer me

thx

you can, at least i dont have any problems...

zodi this "i don't have anyproblems..." the points ? ;p well as everybody know, almost all systems for a computer r of 32 bits, and the ppl who have cpu or a graphic card of 64 bits it doesn't works at 64, works 32, then with the XP professional 64 bits, this will work... but i need know if i need new drivers for somethings or for my quake too, i dunno if this will or won't work with 64 bits (the reason that i want this new system, is that i have 6 GB of RAM now and i want my 6 GB working, not 3) well if someone can tell me something safe thx

Nowadays, using a 64 bits OS has two little advantages :

- Using more than 4 GB of memory (doesn't work correctly under XP 64)

- Using 64bits programs (they are really rare)

In all other cases, you won't have any advantage to use a 64 bits OS.
It can be even worse, cause drivers for some old peripherals are sometimes not available.

I will add that playing under vista 64 has sometimes some problems (had some in Bioshock, Quake, ...)

My advice : use a 64 bits OS only if you have 8 GB of ram, or more...
well atm i have 6 GB of RAM, and my cpu has 64 bits... not 32, also for this my cpu doesn't works full... about drivers... which one u mean ?
RakiM Told :
my cpu has 64 bits... not 32, also for this my cpu doesn't works full... about drivers... which one u mean ?

It does. 64 bits doesn't mean that it works 2x faster than a 32 bits. It just means that memory addresses are coded on 64 bits and that some others stuff can be coded on 64 bits. The processor will need exactly the same number of operations to make the same thing in 32 or 64 bits. So performances are the same.

Only some really rares 64 bits specific programs are running faster (and honestly I don't think that you've got one of them). Some video compressor, archive builder, ...

About drivers : if you have an old sound card, or an old stuff like that, it's not 100% sure you'll be able to use it.

Finally I'll add that 64 bits processor are here for a long time now (about 4-5 years now) and it's not a mystery if 90% of the PC are still running under a 32 bits OS. 64 bits OS are really useless in most of the cases. It will become necessary with the increase of the average number of GB of memory.
