Demo help ;)

Well - Just a little question - Is there a command to start/stop recording a demo, or do I need a special program to record?

Help plz ;)

[feu]

ok, to start to record the demo you type

/record (demo_name_here)

You dont need the brackets.

But usually, when you do this, it says something about g_synch clients being set to 0. Set it to 1, then do the /record command. When you start recording and u wanna play, set the g_sync thing back to 0...makes it more smooth.

To stop recording its /stoprecord i think. If im wrong, someone tell me.

By the way, in the q3 console, the TAB button is very helpful. For example, if you only type g_sync and hit the TAB button, it writes the whole thing out for you. Very handy!

Hope this helps.

Thanx a lot Hitty!
no problem Lups!

Thanx hitman, when i record a demo, I always played it with g_synch on, that played very slow and i couldnt aim well but now I know I can turn it off, it's much better

Okay - another thing:

Is there a program to edit the demos (cut off some scenes, rotate the camera and so on) (?)

there is no programs.. there are scripts.. which give you the freecam.. (defrag cam).. there are scripts people made to do the matrix affect where the camera is rotated 360 around the player. or you can make your own, but it takes a while

scripts use to be on www.own-age.com but im not sure if they took them off but just search google and you should be able to find free cam scripts and things like that.. GL

Here is a link with all kinds of scripts...

Thx 4 the links guys... :D

Hey luc_i, this is about that link you gave

http://www.planetquake.com/thebind/scripts.shtml

I want to make a cool intro for the new upcoming TsW site with demos of TsW players in it. I would like to do matrix effect and stuff in it. But what can you do with scripts, for what do they excists?

hey no problem mr king, glad i helped you out! and thanks you guys for the scripts info, i didnt know any of this stuff.

Take care.

Hey DutchDimension ...they're supposed to be copy paste in configs and make your play easyer...i dunno i never used one :)
ok, thnx luc_i! I don't think I am going to use one to...

They're no cheats. A script consists of a couple of commands organised in some logical way. For example - a script may allow u to change your rail beam colors by hitting space or switching from rail to gauntlet and back by pushing the same key.

Right, well you do not only have to use these scripts to move your camera, there is 1.9 defrag options, seismovision (both from www.planetquake3.net) or sdc from http://skuller-vidnoe.narod.ru

all are easy to use and work well ;)

The scripts are simple to make, just take a lil while. So if any of you haven't found what you want just pm me what it is you want and I'll make a script for you.

Also a quick thing I think you'll like for recording and stopping - just add it to your config::

bind F9 "g_synchronousclients 1;record;g_synchronousclients 0; sv_fps 125"

bind F10 "stoprecord"

All at the push of a button you can now start and stop recording ;) obviously you can change the buttons if needed.

Ciao

there is some other way to edit your demo not to change your camera but to cut scenes that is to convent it to avi (howto can you find with google) and use a director programe. after jou edited it jou can vieuw te demo with media player oid tis,

watch out the making from quake to avi is a time consuming and havy aplication for your pc takes several hours but after that you have no demo but a movie

to make an avi out of it you need like.. a simple way.. QVM.. quake movie maker..

you watch a demo and type..

/cl_avidemo 30 and that will take 30 screenshots a second.. you can do /cl_avidemo 25 for 25 screenshots a second, its all preference i guess.. but once you have thousands of screenshots you need to sequence them and that is what QVM is for.. you can put them in order then it will compress all of them in divx, xvid, or whatever codec you want.. then you can use after effects or different adobe editors to make you avi bling bling and put all kinds of cool fx in it.. QVM does do a few but making videos does take awhile and does completly eat your cpu... thx bye

Em... but these screenshots are extremely large... They're about 1Mb each! So you get 25Mb o screenshots every second... Impossible!
reduce ur resolution...(setup) im guessin u had 800x600 cos of the size u  said? well the standard for movies is now 480x600 (or smthin very close) reduces them to about 600-800kb? well i think thats the size neways

Ciao
Ok, that makes it "only" 15-20Mb per second, which means your half-minute movie will be about 500Mb before compression...
when i made my movies i had to have like 40 gig free just for screenshots.

That's quite a lot :).

So, I've downloaded QuakeMovieMaker and I want to make a movie with the best shots of all TsW members for an intro... Is that easy to make or not?[big]

Only 40gb?? :O  Most peeps use like 80 lol

Yeah 500will seem alot, but it isn't reaallly that much :p + Once compressed it won't matter

Yeah that's easy to make - Once you've got your demos of them and turned the shots into uncompressed screenies. Just put them in to QVM and it will order them itself...So you'll have a lil movie clip that's just gotta be compressed. (xvid is the best to use) -- Donno how to get it on ur website or whatever it is the intro is for thisway, but there is another...Much longer way

Oki - do all the same upto the part where you've got all your screenies uncompressed. Then put them in an animations prog - Flash, Image Ready (id go for image ready)..This is the long part...Individually put all the screenies in it in a verticle line (in order)...It will auto make them into an animation (if you save as a .gif) Then you just put the animation on ur site or whatever

Man... My whole hardware is 40Gb, but the partition with my games only 10 :( So in fact I have about 4Gb to use - there must be another way to do it... :(
Sorry dude, but I'm pretty sure there is no other way m8....Just have to buy a second hd I suppose..

Cheeetos Told :

Sorry dude, but I'm pretty sure there is no other way m8....Just have to buy a second hd I suppose..

Sigh... :( All because of this gay .tga format... If the screens were .jpg, it would be all much easier, but no, they must be damn .tga... Why not .bmp?

Grrrr...

Hmm I think there is a way to change it into .jpg...I heard about it somewhere..I'll find, but what I do remember is that the quality drops a ton..

Quality is lower, but .jpg are 20 x smaller that .tga - and for me that would make a REAL difference. Maybe someone could write a program that would transform .tga into .jpg files, deleting the first type afterwards, all in real-time. It would be good...

Oh - there is a command /screenshotJPEG that makes a .jpg screenshot, but I dont know if there's a .jpg demo... I'll keep on searching.

is it not posible to record little pieces at once and then make a movie of it clean the images and start with the second part.

when youve got all the movies you just pase them together with power director or so.

its mabey a bit more work but i think it should work

yeah its 100% do able with PjM-bmp2avi prog...most editors prefer using just he screens tho ++ you can compress as u make it into a lil bit but u lose even more quality...so not worth goin into m8ie

Some may think that quality = not so important, but would you pay to see a movie at the cinema that was filmed by a 1923 camera? the quality would be terrible + no colours :p

Sooo...If y'all still wants to risk this way I'm willing to explain it, but I seriously wouldn't recommend it..

Quality may be quite important, but if I had to make a lower quality movie or no movie at all I would chose the first option. I got no choice :( I need a way to make the movie out of .jpg or I will have to wait God-knows-how-long to buy a new PC...

Sigh... There MUST be a way! :~(

I'll explain the way in a morning to you, but all you need a second hd really dude. Not a new pc ;)

Well ppl!! u r doing an encyclopedia here!!!! great!!

Hey cheetos why u, or who want else (warnell did great films as well but i fear he is buisy now), try to grab from posts here some text to be assembled in a future Freeze FAQ section? The demo/avi making is a good argument many ppl r interested in!

Sounds good?

cu, stema

Yeah, (As I said in pm) I'll get started on a freeze faq of small to big questions/probs..I'll add a section about it of making a movie...Will take a while to make tho as alot to explain + atm I'm caught up in some stupid argument of who was in wrong with some huge fight in rugby :p

Oki as promised here is the way you can quickly turn your screens into avi...It will save you space...(I know you'd rather have .jpg, but with this you should have more than enough space)

1) Grab you demo and record your first frag/frag sequence...cl_avidemo 30 or whatever fps u decide to use

*Warning for you, do not do more than one shot at a time as it will build up very badly on you..*

2) Grab pjbmp2avi prog...(Either search it in google or, if you can't find, I'll send it to you) and convert all of the screens to avi - With compressing I'd advise the cinepack codec (The one used by Annhilation)

3) Once it's done del all the screens and grab your next shot...Keep re-doing this until you're done with all ur shots

4) Put it into a vid editing prog...Premiere, Vegas 4, Ulead Media studio etc etc and make your movie

This way you save alot of space and quality isn't as low as jpg, but you do lose alot of editing capabilities...

Got a small feeling that I've forgottern something, but I can't see what...perhaps warnell will see it or whatever, hehe :D

Ciao dude

Edit: Oh btw, as I think this could happen: Plz don't make a post requesting/sharing a link/a prog of a warez..Can get Stema into heaps of crap..(Funender experienced something like it -- payed some fine - deadly lucky :O) (Oh btw Funender = some old quaker, now making money and stuff out of his online music industry thing..www.funender.com)

i never use that codec pack again i used it once it fucked up all my xvid movies (they all turned green) and after deinstalling it not a single media programe worked anymore so my advice don't use those shitty codec packs and download all codecs seperate.

^^^^^^^^^ 100% right

codec packs often are not made correctly and will only mess you up...but from what you tell me it sounds like u only dloaded an oolld one m8 - but still beos of poor packing :p

Thanx Cheetos... Now I get it... I record it from the DEMO, not while playing... Sillly noob of me. :)

Now I will be able to do it :D

Thanx a lot!

hehe np dude

gl & hf with it dude

Damn it! I still got to learn a lot... I've already made a minute-long .avi (consisting of plenty of scenes), before it came to my mind that I have to load Freeze Tag mod before recording :(

And to make it clearer, I deleted all the demos. I'll have to start it once again, I've lost 2 days of work... :(

Well, we have to pay for our mistakes...

Arf well live and learn m8ie :D

*Btw once you're done with the vid plz let me know, because I've got some ideas in my mind ;)*

Also a lil tip..When making a vid, try to use the demos as you make them otherwise you have alot of sorting to do. Example - I was doing a vid (had to stop because had to reformat pc )<img class="> and decide to get all my footage first..I ended up with well over 1000 demos and in 2months of daily work I only got to about the 300th demo...Only 34shots out of them also :p (I'm picky)

That's why I deleted the demos :( But it's not that bad, life goes on, there are many demos to be recorded and many avis to be made out of them ;)

tc

oic - good way to think ;)

Btw just thought..In freeze there aren't many shots you could do? As only rail - so will be very interested to see what u come up with :D
Nothing impressive, I'm just trying to have fun. :) I'll let know when I finish - for now I have to record some more demos. ;)
U say nothing impressive, but it will be :D

Yeah just ply about n have some FUUUNN :D
