Ready for NEW FREEZE MOD?

Hey all! [lo]

As i've read here some threads, in which you're in fight which mod is better than other and as i see the poll here have the same question, i'm brining you some positive news ..


I'm doing some mod coding lately, as some of u may already know, and at first i've done some funny "basic" things just for fun, for example, if you write "god like" (with /say) there'll join 10 xaero's with nightmare skill (rail only) and will only aim on you, .. and also have done some basic rocket mod's, that they're going slowly around, etc, etc ..


These was just some test things to see how the mod coding goes in quake, so far i've done some more advanced cool things, for example, homing rocket missle's .. if you shoot a rocket anywhere u want, it will lock on first player and will follow him, then i've done the freezedt thing (i think this is there) if you shoot ur team mate with rail, it won't have effect .. (so no more thaw stealing .. ok ok with gauntlet maybe ;)) also i'm trying to do some funny stuff now, for example, if you shoot a player (with rail) in leg, arm or head it will write that .. for example: player x was railed by y in leg and died ... haven't done that yet, but will try to do it in up coming days ..


So .. why this thread from me? simple ..


Let's build the best freeze mod available on scene, gimme idea's what should be in it, gimme best/good stuff from other freeze mod's (also maybe nonfreeze mod's) and let's code it in one mod only ..


I will build it especially for 1.31 so it will be as stable as it could be and won't work on <1.31 (less than 1.31)


So guys .. shoot ur idea's here and i'll try to code them, .. also i'm trying to code some cheat protection thing, like it is in freezedt, of course updated, but atm i have just one idea how to do it, maybe someone who code can gimme some idea's or his thinking here .. (no punkbuster of course)

Can you just be more precise at some things? for example:
- Some unlagged stuff (which stuff? :) )

@mathew: this can be done of course, but how will one team win another? for example _team #1_ can kill all from _team #2_, expect 1 member, then _team #3_ kill the last _team #2_ member and they get scored..?? gimme ideas how will you avoid this or how will you build it, it's nice idea indeed.. (CTF doesn't have that problem..)
 
@steven: have u watched "The Incredibles?" i knew u didn't, go do it, u'll have real ones soon after it ;)

just thought a bit about more teams playing freeze and came to this solution, tell me what u think..


If team#2 dies, the team which killed most players in team#2 will win.. just maybe what about if both teams kill same amount of players? maybe which killed them faster or something .. give ideas, but at first let's try to do the freeze tag mod as is should be, this can be also my next challange ..

i was thinkin of each team starting with a set amount of points, like 15, for example.
so

if 1 whole team is frozen, they lose a point, and when they reach 0 they are out until the other teams are finished.

wat language are u using to mod btw, cos i know how to program using VB, Delphi and i have made numerous games in these languages using DirectX, API and other stuff like BitBlt, is it similar to VB, or is it like c++?
although i know Q3 uses opengl and i have never used this b4, so i might not be able to help.

well quake 3 is written in plain c, so if u're unfamiliar with it, too bad .. go learn it ;) if u know pascal (delphi) this won't be that hard i guess, cos pascal is best language to learn coding ..

oke my wishing list to prority,


first priority,


anti tawstealing (the way so you can shoot away frozen but not non frozen) by making 2 knockbacks for it.


anti spawn frag thing that works both sides so spawner cant be shot and cant shoot or can shoot but other dont die.


anti chatfrag, (no ghost style) after chatfrags the player gets kicked, the one who get chatfraged auto unfreeze faster as normal.


anti camp (no ghost style) zo difine a zone, if the player does not move out of that zone after adjustable seconds he gets autodistruct.


server must be able to force the client to use maxpackets 100 and snaps (altough snaps is a bit more dependable from the connection speed), the maxpacket must not kick peeps cos than they dont understand why if they are noob and quake makes standard maxpackets 30 so every reinstall will give problems than.


command to turn off flashing names on client side so player can deside not to see flashing names (or just don't built them in


2 grapple styles (osp and normal) (thikness ajustable)


unlagged option (makes up the ping for high pingers) in te x-battle mod there is a option to unlag till a sertain ping so no matter what ping you have you always play with ping 50. that is verry nice.


playstyle as freezetag (speed, untawshit all default at the same values as freezeinstaunlagged)


normal sounds (not like F4A)

possibillyty for full osp hud and hud settings


scorebord and stats, not onley score and untaws but shots\kills efficecie like in osp.


abuse name filter


abuse tekst filter basic so don't block things like shit as on DELTAFORCE but words witch withc can be used to flame can be blocked or kick player after flaming.


bind (clan) names to IP or password so onley the player with realy is the real player can use his default clan name (a way to check if its no name faker)


forceplayer model for your own team not needed when want to use enemy models or enemy colors


referee function so selected player (with referee pass) can use a the ingame wallhack in spectator mode and see IP's (so spot onley, kick and game conditions change still by rcon password)


vote limit for a player in one map so you can onley call a vote 2 times per map or ones in .... minutes.


server donwload speed ajusteble (so you can say that the server can use 100 k\s to send the mod to players)


3rd preority


intergrate web in mod, so let the mod generate a stats page with not onley holds the stats of players but for clans as well. and many stats so not onley total score


anti cheat why i placed that here, i defently think there should be some anti cheat in here but i think this is the most difficult to programe (and you must be able to update the code)and almost impossible to do without pure, as result it will going to give the most problems when using the mod, so i think make a good and stabel mod first before put anti cheat in so you know if there is a problem its the anti cheat and not the mod.


give the mods its own names and looks menu's (give it its own identity and menu's so you can see its made for the 1.31 by none cos you will deserve credit)


make the client options avalible in the menu of the mod so in theorie the console is no longer needed this will help noobs


vsay possibility to add strings and option to turn it off on the client.


if possible backwards compartible with freezeinstaunlagged

i think you must not aim for a serverside mod, but intergrate osp (the main reson why peeps play unpure) in the mod and a way to turn it off for peeps like stema who want to hold it simple or turn it on for the ones who love osp. especialy the anti cheat and force maxpackets mutch easyer when using a client mod onley possible if you use a client mod. if the mod supports osp and normal view there is no reson to load it in a other mod, still i think that unpure must be a option cos there will be made changes in the mod during its use so the mod changes. if you dont allow non pure this will give troubles.

about the more teams, its a nice idea but on the 10th preority if you ask me, cos it will take a other type of scoring and it will make a total change in what we do now lets first make a nice mod with can replace freezeinstaunlagged and focus us after that on differend playing styles. (cos if we do that i want that foodball thing like in ut2004 in it that kicks ass)


things i forgot killing grapple, and make a difference in the trow speed of the grapple and the pull speed


(off topic non you know software to make maps with cos i want to make some new kick ass maps if i got time again)


making it for 1.31 or for 1.31 and 1.32 proberbly a mod for 1.31 will also work for 1.32 but i think you should aim for 1.31 onley and if it works on 1.32 its nice but its not nessesairy, cos when you make a good mod, with some anti cheat sollutions like the referee function and a simple anti cheat there is no need at all to migrade to 1.32 so why spend effort in making a mod for 1.32 wile the community who uses it is in 1.31

YEAH TRUE but that was before i have seen the prove why high maxpackets are better, i did not know they coused lag that was not visible for me, when i knew i spend a month of getting used to high maxpackets.

opsessed with high maxpackets yeah i think if your router can handle it you must use it, but in this i'm not the onley one, you steven and lyor are the ones who said to change to 100, and forcing it is also in the wish list of poision, onley thing i say is not onley force it but let the server put in the setting so peeps who know little about console commands dont get kicked cos they use maxpackets 30 (default by quake) so my way has the same effect as warning chance or kick way like Punkbuster in 1.32 but makes sure that noone gets kicked cos of there settings thats all.


king none asked to put down our ideas here so that is what i have done, i don't think that most of them in priority 1 and 2 are impossible, none wants to make the perfect freezemod so i write down the things i want

I dont see why you keep it as them...all you do is lag yourself...

I showed you the cg_drawping 1 with them too, more proof your ping is low. Yet you would like to lag yourself?

I know you don't care but dude an honest - fuck you asshole - to any who know they lag themselves and know if they didn't do this they would have a lower ping. Which is what the original use of cl_maxpackets 30 was for.

i think the number 30 is set because old modems can't handle that mutch packets, and if they use higher they will timeout of lag badly but in fact all broughtband routers should be able to take that number of packages without cousing lag cos there overloaded.

King is a borne lagger, it's in his blood, nothing to do about that. :~(

cheee i got my proof, with 100 my score is always below 4 frags a min and with 30 its always above (if the servers nice an full)

i havent any problem with killing more than 4 in a minute wether i ave maxpackets below 30 or wheter i have maxpackets on 100 xD


but i found out that shots are more precize when i  have maxpackets on 100 ... so i better play with ping of 48 and my shots are hell of a aim wether than having a ping between 20 and 25 and shots seam to lag .... even its only a bit but its irreatating and sucks for me xD

about maxpackets, u know polish people have bad connection, same do russian .. they lag most, no offense, but it's true .. so if you really lag, it's better to put it on lower then have it on 100 (ok rate and snaps also matters most).. 60 and up is ok already .. so .. i guess i should do that configurable in the config, so the admin will put it to what he wants .. agree?


i'll try to make mod as configurable as possible, i think this is the best way ..


about GUI in game (menu's), if someone can spend some time on gfx, go on :-), if u want to have the same as they are, just with new settings, no problem ..


what kind of options do you want to have in menu's? (if u press ESC in game, or in the first menu, when u start the game)

no its just because your used to low max packets i got that to when i swithed from 15 to 100, after a wile you are used to 100 and you will come back even better, about that if high ping than make maxpackets low thats onley if your router\modem cant handle more packages or your connection is verry slow (125 k and lower)but if your connection is faster and you have a good router use a high max packets cos this will compensate packetlos from your router\modem till the server.

but sinds this is offtopic i sugest to discuss this in the topic "100 the magic number" thats about maxpackets. this is about the new mod

about the menu i mean in the settings menu if you press esc --> settings or in the main menu when you pres settings.


the looks i would find it nice to have some kind of name logo as background of the console and menu in other colors and fonts so its clearly visible that you run a special mod like is done in Ufreeze.


i dont know how this is done but if it are just pictures, just send them to me and i will change them to something nice

And in the game, if u are last man standing, a message should appear: "You are last!" (Like in FreezeDT).

The way to handle Spawnfrags i would take from F4A! There you just die and dont freeze if u are spawnfargged and can respawn other point, better then the shitty imorrtal thing (Ever heared of the Spawndedfraggers?? :P )!

i like the way of no ghost more, you get frozen but unfreeze faster cos otherwise its hard to win if someone just pushes chat wen he is going to lose the fight. mabey a timeout of a few seconds before the chat protection jumps in will solve this.

none when you get programming you seen that instaunlagged kicks with lots of peeps, freezedt kicks also (it happends sooner with osp) but with less peeps no ghost server crashed with many peeps all the mods are based on freezetag but they all got problems when handeling more persons. mabey you can find the bug that is cousing this in the code. cos i see the more advanced the mod the sooner it kicks \ crases.

p0ison i asked to which email should i mail u, cos u have lot's of them (different on msn, ....).. i'll send to the one on gmx.net then .. of course i saw, u even have it on signature .. anyway, i like the YOU ARE LAST idea, will add it to the list also and an option to bind a grapple somewhere in menu ...


about the chat thing.. here can come to conflicts, like i see 5 enemies and i'll press say button asap, so i'll unfreeze sooner .. this ain't good .. maybe it's better that u can't kill him or something, but if he's talking for some time he'll be able to be killed and if he's the last player in team he'll have NO privileges.. what u think about that?


about serverside kicking .. there's always a message why u were disconnected from server (i forgot what kind of message was yesterday, but it was some problem in some function), u just have to scroll a bit up on console to check it .. so next time u'll get disconnected, please do a "/condump kicked.txt " in console to save these messages to a file and send me on email or here so i'll be able to check them ..

i would like to have all client options in the menu enmycolors on, of grapple on off ect so console is not longer needed for the basic client functions (is in my request list)(for noobs)

about the chat protection like i said is it not possible to to make the chatprotecton like in no ghost you freeze but unfreeze sooner, aso the one who chatfrags gets a warning and get kicked after a number of times that can be set by the server admin, to protect that peeps press the chat button when they are in trouble cant there be a timeout before the chat protection kicks in like a second of 5 or ajustable by server admin or so they will get frozen the normal way when they do this.
what about this, if u chatfrag ur mouse/keyboard will be jammed/locked for 5 secs (as example..), or wud that be unfair?
nah cuz then peeps will be pressing chatbutton right before you gonna hit them and then ur fucked

that is why i want a few seconds before the protection kicks in. if someone does that what you discribe they will get killed and frozen the way it was if he did not press the button.

another things u all can contribute are:


- i want to make all commands, which will be added in mod, under /something_blabla.. so every added command will be easly known .. with what should it start?


- also u can all start searching the name of mod ..

Name of mod must be easy! Important is that u can find the mod in All Seeing Eye in Freeze!!! Lets call the MoD None Freeze ;)

personaly i like md most. its short and i think not to hard to remember.
off course you can do a part of the mods name as beginning command, in my suggestions it would be something like /euro_ or /eu_ .


as name of the mod something like EUROFREEZE or E- Battle mod or EUROMOD something that shows this mod is made and used by the Europeen community.

Eurofreeze is perfect!! ef_ or eu_ should be good as well!


I think u should start to code e the core of the mode, than once we foudn a stable version u can start to add features (come on chatfrag is not a problem, if u chat dont complain if u get fragged, its your fault!!).


Ill try to help un in coding if i find time.

You have my respect you creating new mod, cos i heard its lot of work :).  I agree with all things that other already post, but can u add changeable color of enemy team (like in OSP /cg_enemycolor)? Its not necessary, but I will be really happy if u can.


If new mod is making what about add some new maps directly to mod? (6++ for example) The mod will be larger then, but all will have that maps and we can play them. Im getting bored with standart Q3 maps and we cant play another cos ppl dont have them.


And if u have time can u give me some links with informations about creating mods? I want know how to create mod.

the enemy colors is one of the most asked things here.

i dont think its a good idea to make the mod bigger with maps, if you do that people with limited bandwith cant download it. especialy not from a server.


Q3 mods are basicly made by editing, adding and remove code from the source of quake or the source of a existing mod, quake is written in c++ after you are done with programming you have to encode it to the pk3 files and your mod is done. (sounds simple but is hard and time consuming) but if you want to know please open a topic for it here and dont go offtopic here

well if u want to know, quake3 is written in plain C (not C++) ...


anyway, a mod with some grapple adjustments is created and compiled .. so if u wanted to check it, i'll upload it .. nothing special so far about it ..


no time to do anything creative in it atm, cos of all winter semester exams on college.. i'll have more time to spend in march again, so we can fully tested it then with lot's of more things in it ..


just to let u know something is happening with it :)

i have already continued with coding and have scheduled the deadline of mod for the beginning of april (won't say 1st of :P )


The name of mod was choosen to be efreeze (as european freeze) and check the first page of this topic for things which are already coded ("X" is infront finished ones), things with "??" will be coded if there's enough interest .. if u really want to have something else in mod, which is in other lists, tell now or it will be too late .. i don't know how long will i develop the mod, till april for sure ..


it will also have a very good anti cheat protection .. this is the hardest part to code, so this will take some time.. other can be done faster ..


hope this project will come to end someday, when i'll stop developing it, i can give the source to ppl who have willing to continue coding it ..


at the end i would like to personally thank rebtor for all his efforts and all his sufferness from me, thank u buddy for everything and look forward to test everything new when u'll have some free time ..

U could try and make a kind of, program in the mod that checks the configs for cheat commands, and then bans. But if its too hard i understand.

i don't wanna discuss about cheating protection .. i have good ideas, simple and hard ones .. the less is known, the better ..

ok well i do have one question me and fragbait both share the same IP address but we are to people, we go through a router, and thus have the same ip, so if u bind my name to the ip and passwaord it frag will not be able to connect as he is using my ip, also how could we play quake at the same time, althoght binding ip name is a good idea, it not pratical.

well if this is enabled i give u an advanced warning:

i change my config's settings maybe 20-30 times in just one map, so you would get a lot of spammage :p
yea that it sets it in console, but also treats it as a say command
lol taht would be spamming withou end... dont want read all time /bind mouse1 "+aim;+attack;-aim" ...
well is it usefull i dont know a good anticheat tool seems more efective to me. but if you can filter the selftyped commands from the user out of all other commands (so \cheat_on and \bind mouse3 blblablba will display but things like when someone shoots will stay out) and you can turn it on and off you can use it to as a way to confirm if someone is cheating.

well i dont like it somehow because if someone execs his config it would flood the console (anoying), but besides that it would generate a huge amound of data whitch needs to be send more i think it would even be possible that it would genarate lag with many users cos commands that otherwise are not transfered to the server (like binds) will now be transfered to the server, and worse from server to all clients.

well about lag .. 1 char is one byte, so it's really not huge amount of data .. if i wrote a sentence of 50 chars (letters), this will be 50 bytes (still far far far away from kb), even if lot's of ppl will send it won't for sure use more than a kilobyte of ur bandwidth ... this is really the top .. but anyway, well it will be deffo annoying, so maybe admin, if he finds someone suspicious, can do like, for example: "/bla Nick" and it can log his/her commands to a file and everytime he connects to a server .. so u can check after a while or it maybe only log the commands which are not in quake + mod, .. lot's of possibilities, but i deffo think it will be annoying if it will spam with this .. at the end, how will u chat with someone anyway .. but yea u have a good point king

maybe u can try it first and when it proves to make more lagg just cut it out again? Perhaps its possible to make the bind things only a spec team say thingie. So when u think some1 is cheating u go spec and there u see all the binds and stuff.
and i think it need a clientside mod for such things.... and if u make such S*** with say what type.. plz give me the command sv_writecommands "0" to disable that S***

there'll be a test server up for testing .. i'll publish a server password and rcon here, so u'll be able to play a bit with settings, from changing grapple a bit, for example, pull speed, grapple speed, speed of how grapple pull u to the target, ...... if there'll be lot's of abuse, like kicking banning players, i'll change and give access to only ppl, who are really ready to help and beta test .. but i think u're old enough and that this won't happen ..

well, for example, best is that u can log his commands to a file, if u're really suspicious .. it won't lag, it won't cos spam, problems, it will be quiet and only u will know .. so ..


the mod will be both sided, it has to be .. if u want frozen to look frozen and grapple to be nice and sexy, u need client files, it has to be programmed to load such pictures, ...

yeah lets make only pure servers :D or something like pure. cause many cant join pure even if they have the right mod. Can u make sth like sv_halfpure ? only check if the pk3s are there? andnot check the hole quake? plzzzzzzzz

oh about pure servers .. of course, that's what i have in mind .. one pure and one unpure, so for those who don't know how to set things up and stuff, can still play and download, fix things later ..

why stop? if u real someone (at least u think u do) and ur friend moves in the place, it will be like, oh.. not hit :@, or like this: the enemy can shoot 2 people in 1, while the rail of the 1 behind the other 1 (still following?) will be blocked by his friend.. wudnt be nice rigth?

Anyway, of course the shot should not go through.. thawstealing on public servers drives me crazy but you know.. playing on a public server is nothing but aim practice, you can't expect any teamwork or fun..


Rail which would go thru frozen bodies would only spoil CWs, that's my opinion.


Btw could you guys please set the same mod or at least the same hook speed on HoD and 333 servers ? It's really strange to switch from faster hook to slower.. I'd like to test as much as possible but I can't play on other Stemy's server ( can't move when I get used to the fast hook :) ).

there aren't any big differences on server atm .. there're more, but on hod server, there's only grapple speed and possibility to have black color in names (without 2 ^^) .. poison asked me if he can try it out and i consent .. so i made an stable version, with 100% working stuff in it ..


so grapple is fully adjustable, it can be 100 times slower than it is now, or it can have infinity speed (u click and it's on wall) .. so it's up to admin how he will set the speed up .. (default settings are like normal (like on stema server))


on server there aren't any other things, cos i don't want to make it public till april .. some things are not fully working and needed more work to be done, for example, last messages is always shown if u have just bots in ur team and such stuff .. there're also several other things, which are not fully bugless unless grapple and possiblity for black color in names .. more things needs to be coded from my side ..


about "thaw stealing protection" .. it's not meant to be for frozen bodies .. it's meant to be for what were u talking .. if i thaw, my team mate (with this i mean a random player in my team, not some cw stuff) can't shoot me away from it .. so i was asking if the rail should go through me (if he shoot me (a player in my team)) or should stop in me (like i'm wall) .. of course u'll be able to shoot around frozen bodies do with them what u are able to do now .. just players from same team as u won't be able to shoot u away with rail .. everything is adjustable, so a user with rcon (admin password) can change this right now and it will be like it is now for example ..


on hod server there're just those 2 things i mentioned above and maybe it will stays so .. will also talk to stema about it, so we'll have a balance between servers ..


oh for those who wants to know differences, i said that sometimes, but i'll say it again, go on first post in this topic and below, there's a TO DO list and other things .. i'm updating it, so there's the progress of the mod ...

about spawn protection ..


there should be 2 protections, one for the player who respawn and other for the player who is shot by the respawned player ..


so respawned player should:
- die if he/she gets shot and he/she's able to respawn again (of course in some adjustable amount of time)
- have some protection which prevents killing him/her for some adjustable amount of time


so what about the player who gets hit by respawned player
- spawned player is not able to shoot for some adjustable amount of time
- player, who gets hit by respawned player, dies and is able to respawn again
- or something like all players have some protection which prevents them from killing each other


which way would be best from above?

spawner don't die and cant shoot (and be shot away) spawning again would mean you can be spawnfragt at more spawnpoints keeping you spawning many times verry iritating its just the thing that irritates me spawm bam dead. also on normal quake were you respawn instantly , also it can make score unclear you come around a corner shoot but dont get points. as last in small maps you will get overcrouwded spawnpoints this way, so you will get more " telespawnfrags" . (someone spawns on your point when you aint left yet. this way is fair to cos you give both sides time to move and aim.
spawning does not realy piss me off mutch i think your going to to mutch trubble here or is it just me that spowning does not piss off
Humm do u have 2 download something, coz i tried turning auto download on and it says downloading Q3SOUND then boots me 2 main menu [!?!]
